The Hydrogen One is an upcoming new tech cellphone, from a manufacturer who is renowned for its digital cinema cameras. Although this latest device still does not see the light, the company made some announcements that caught the attention of the international press. Its main feature will be what the company has called “holographic screen”. In a press release full of technicalities for this smartphone says that the 5.7-inch screen, somehow, uses nanotechnology to “seamlessly exchange [between] traditional 2D content, holographic content with multiple views, 3D content and interactive games.” Quite impressive at first glance but it arouses certain skepticism among the most expert.
It is a kind of mixture between the ingenious visual trick of Amazon offered Fire Phone and 3D screens without glasses as those found in the Nintendo 3DS. Shortly after the announcement, Jim Jannard, founder of Red, said in a forum, “there is not a good way to describe it until you see it.” He also comments, “It is technology that you have not seen before. It is not lenticular; an inferior technology in all senses that has been tested many times before and has failed for good reason. (See Amazon 3D Fire, LG Optimus, etc). ”
Red says it will also use an algorithm to turn stereo sound into “multidimensional audio” for a dive experience or, as RED says, “Assault Your Senses.” The phone will allow modular accessories, similar to those found in the Moto Z line but with a special focus on image capture (clearly).
They have also announced that the phone will work (in some way) with Red’s range of digital cinema cameras.
The manufacturer says that the phone will be shipped in early 2018, and is currently available in pre-order on the Red website. Its starting price is $ 1,195 for the aluminum version, and there is also a $ 1,595 variant made in titanium.
All of the above is subject to change and the company cautions that the design of the phone may also vary. In the published information, they indicate a very important detail: “after this initial launch we will not be able to fill all the orders in time due to the limitations of the production. We do not guarantee these prices at the time of launch. Modular accessories will not be available at launch, either. ”
Hydrogen One sounds like any other reinforced Android, although we do not know exact specifications and therefore we must give them the benefit of the doubt. The promotional photo shows a rather aggressive design and a relatively small camera hump. You can see a USB Type-C port, a special connector on the back (for add-ons), a microSD slot and a 3.5 mm connector. For headphones.
